I was amazed at the detail that I was able to capture in the exposures. Unfortunately, I didn't have very much time there, so this image was created from only 3 exposures, each 2 minutes in length." Taken from Frosty Drew Observatory, RI using a stock Nikon d700 camera and a telescope with an 18mm f/3.5 lens.

I love the way the moon is suspended among the stars and due to the gradient of the earth's shadow, it really has a 3D appearance. Shot with a Zeiss 100mm f2.0 on a Nikon D4 piggybacked on a polar aligned Questar 3.5" telescope.

Our #AstroPhotoFriday submission for this week is from IG/Arcturusastro, who photographed and processed this image of IC 1396, the Elephant's Trunk Nebula. He used a Stock Nikon d700 with a 400mm telescope and a f/5.6 lens from city skies in Providence, RI. The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is the vertical dark region just right of center. Stellar winds and ultraviolet light from a hot, young star above the trunk are compressing the gas and dust and triggering new star formation.
